The Federal Road Safety Corp’s personnel along the Zaria-Kaduna expressway have retrieved a total of five million, twenty thousand, six hundred and sixty naira from an accident scene which they returned to the rightful owners.
Daily Trust reported that the money was recovered after a Toyota Hummer Bus accident on Monday involving a burst tire at a tight turn on the Zaria-Kaduna highway.
The FRSC Zaria unit commander, Abdurrahman Muhammad Yakasai, who displayed the recovered funds to journalists in Zaria, claimed that overloading and overspeeding were to blame for the accident’s tire blowout.
He gave the cash to one of the accident victims’ relatives to deposit in a safe place.
The relative who received the money, however, chose not to speak with the media for safety reasons.
The unit commander added that the Hummer bus headed to Kaduna, had no speed limit and was loaded with 11 people and 60 Jerry cans of palm oil.
However, the Commander claimed that all 11 passengers were rescued from the car alive and taken in good condition to ABU Teaching Hospital, Shika.
He also affirmed that no one had died as of Monday when the victims were being taken to the hospital.
