The Transmission Company of Nigeria has sanctioned a contract for the construction of two 330KVA power towers in Yobe with the aim of resolving the blackout issue in the state.
According to a statement released by the Secretary to the Yobe State Government, Alhaji Baba Wali, in Damaturu on Saturday, this initiative seeks to address the recent power outage that affected the region.
Alleged acts of vandalism by Boko Haram insurgents resulted in damage to two power towers, disrupting the supply of electricity from Gombe to Yobe and Borno.
This incident, occurring in the Kasesa area of Damaturu on Thursday, plunged residents of both Yobe and Borno into a blackout.
Wali mentioned that Governor Mai Mala Buni had instructed the Yola Electricity Distribution Company and the state’s electrification agency to explore alternative methods for supplying electricity to Damaturu.
“Buni has directed the Rural Electrification Board (REB) and YEDC to restore 33KV line from Potiskum to Damaturu with immediate effect,” he said.
