Ogun State has been plunged into darkness, affecting no fewer than 67 communities, due to ongoing maintenance work at the Transmission Company of Nigeria substation in Ota, Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area.
The PUNCH reported that, residents of Abeokuta, the state capital, along with other parts of Ogun, have reported experiencing power outages in recent days.
Before the outage, many noted a significant drop in power supply, forcing them to rely on alternative sources while being billed by the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company despite not being metered.
On Friday, IBEDC issued a notice on its social media platforms explaining that the current power disruptions were a result of maintenance at the Ota TCN 132kV/33kV substation, impacting the entire Abeokuta region.
The statement read, “Kindly be informed that due to ongoing maintenance at the OTA TCN 132kV/33kV station, customers in the 67 communities are currently experiencing a planned outage.”

This disruption follows a recent announcement by the TCN, which revealed that it had successfully commissioned a new 100/125MVA 132/33kV power transformer at the Ota transmission substation.
This upgrade increased the substation’s capacity from 228MW to 328MW, allowing for more power supply to both IBEDC and Ikeja Electric customers in Ota, Sango, Ijoko, Atan, Ijagba, and other surrounding industrial areas.
The TCN stated that this project was part of the ongoing TCN-World Bank initiatives across Nigeria.
