Italian club Napoli have turned down a €65m offer from Galatasaray for Nigeria’s Victor Osimhen.
According to Corriere dello Sport, the Turkish champions attempted to secure a permanent transfer for the 26-year-old forward but fell short of his €75m release clause.
Osimhen, who moved to Galatasaray on loan until the season’s end without an option to buy, is at the center of a unique contractual agreement.
If he transfers to another club in January, Galatasaray would receive €6m in compensation.
This effectively increases his release clause to €81m for other suitors in the winter window.
As a result, only Galatasaray can trigger his €75m release clause this month, while other clubs will have to wait until the summer to make a similar bid.
Originally, Osimhen’s release clause was set at €130m but was reduced last summer when he signed a new contract with Napoli before making the temporary switch to Turkey.
The Nigerian striker has been a key figure for Galatasaray this season, delivering 16 goals and five assists in 20 appearances, reinforcing his reputation as one of Europe’s elite forwards.
Despite transfer speculation, Osimhen has reaffirmed his commitment to staying in Turkey for the full season.
In December, he stated, “I will not leave in January, I am at Galatasaray until the end of the season. I do not know what Galatasaray and Napoli are talking about afterwards, but if they come to me, we will talk.”
Osimhen’s value has soared after a remarkable 2022/23 campaign with Napoli, where he claimed the Serie A Golden Boot with 26 goals, leading the club to their first league title in over 30 years.
