Gunmen have reportedly killed a Police Inspector and injured two others as they opened fire at them at a checkpoint in Ebonyi on Monday.
According to Vanguard, Ebonyi State Police Command’s Spokesman, SP Onome Onovwakpoyeya, confirmed the incident on Tuesday while speaking with journalists in Abakaliki, the state capital.
Onovwakpoyeya disclosed that the command is aware of the incident and is making out for a press statement.
“I am making a press statement now, and I will make it available to the media when I am done,” Onovwakpoyeya said.
According to an eyewitness identified as, Philip Onwe, informed newmen that the gunmen opened fire at a checkpoint and shot the Inspector and two other police officers, who sustained bullet wounds.
