The Federal Road Safety Corps has confirmed the death of four individuals following a lone accident involving an articulated vehicle in Kogi State.
According to the FRSC, two other persons sustained severe injuries in the crash.
Speaking to the News Agency of Nigeria in Lokoja on Tuesday, the Kogi Sector Commander of the FRSC, Mr. Samuel Oyedeji, attributed the cause of the accident to excessive speed and brake failure.
He revealed that all the victims were passengers aboard the ill-fated truck.
The tragic incident occurred at approximately 7:20 p.m. on Monday at Falele, opposite the Produce area along the Lokoja-Okene highway.
The truck reportedly lost control and crashed into a concrete road divider.
Upon receiving a distress call, the FRSC promptly deployed a rescue team to the scene.
“Unfortunately, four people were already dead when we got there, while two others sustained serious injuries and bruises,” Oyedeji stated.
He further explained that the two injured victims, who suffered fractures, were rushed to Honey Gold Hospital for medical treatment, while the bodies of the deceased were taken to the mortuary at the Federal Teaching Hospital, Lokoja.
The sector commander urged motorists to prioritize safety by avoiding excessive speed and ensuring their vehicles, especially the braking system, are in good condition before setting out on any journey.
