A tragic fire incident in Kano State has resulted in the loss of six lives, while six others were successfully rescued, according to the State Fire Service.
In a statement released on Tuesday, Kabiru Isah Jaafar, an official of the State Fire Service, confirmed the casualties and rescue figures.
He also highlighted that fire service personnel saved properties valued at approximately N1.2 billion during the month of January 2025.
Jaafar, who was speaking on behalf of the Fire Service spokesman, Saminu Yusif, provided details of the fire service’s operations, revealing that 56 emergency calls were received across the state’s 29 fire stations in January 2025. These included 10 rescue calls and seven false alarms.
“The Fire Service, under the supervision of Director Alhaji Sani Anas, responded to 56 calls in January, with a focus on saving lives and properties. Thankfully, we were able to prevent even greater damage and loss,” Jaafar said.
He also stressed the importance of public vigilance during the harmattan season, urging citizens to exercise caution with fire.
“I take this opportunity to urge the public to handle fire with utmost care, especially during the harmattan season when fire incidents are more frequent,” Jaafar emphasized. “Motorists must also drive cautiously and adhere to traffic laws to prevent road accidents.”
