A group, under aegis of Christian Council of Nigeria has lamented the spate of coup d’états in Africa, calling on African leaders to embrace peace building, religious tolerance and economic development.
This was disclosed by the Chairman, Local Organising Committee, CCN, Dr Israel Akanji, during a chat with journalists in Abuja, Wednesday, on the upcoming All Africa Conference of Churches, 12th General Assembly and 60th anniversary of CCN, noting the group believes political and interreligious dialogue remains the best option for social justice.
The council explained that while it does not condone the prevalence of corruption in political circles on the continent, it totally condemns military coups as an alternative for governance.
Akanji, who is also the President, Nigeria Baptist Convention, said, “All Africa Conference of Churches and its member organisations and churches in Nigeria believe that faith and dialogue are powerful tools for change. As such, we are committed to playing a pivotal role in continental efforts towards eradication of militancy and all forms of violence.”
