Grammy-winning Nigerian artist, Burna Boy, has come under fire after a video surfaced online showing him socializing with Seyi Tinubu, the son of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The viral clip has sparked a wave of criticism, with many accusing the singer of contradicting his long-standing stance against bad governance.
Burna Boy, renowned for his politically charged music, has been vocal about Nigeria’s socio-political issues. His track 20 10 20, which addressed the Lekki Toll Gate shooting during the #EndSARS protests, solidified his reputation as an advocate for the oppressed.
However, his recent interaction with Seyi Tinubu has left fans and critics questioning his principles.
On social media, users expressed their disappointment, with some labeling him a “sellout.” One user, @vodermolt_1, remarked, “Nah, Burna is a MF, hugging Seyi when he tries so bad to be like Fela and sings against bad governance. Dude is just a performer.”
Another user, @HeisBibire, commented on the irony, stating, “Burna Boy wey dey sing about oppressors dey chill with the oppressor’s son. Nah wah oh.”
Similarly, @kris_Australia emphasized the growing disconnect between celebrities and their fans, saying, “The poor masses need to realize that this is a battle between the poor and the rich. They need to unfollow and boycott music and movies from celebrities… You’re complaining of hardship, yet these people you feed with your streams and subscriptions are frolicking with your oppressors.”
