Nigerian travel content creator Alma Asinobi has made history by carrying the Nigerian flag across all seven continents in a record time of 71 hours, 26 minutes, and 25 seconds.
Her remarkable journey, which concluded in Sydney on Sunday, saw her traverse Antarctica, South America, North America, Europe, Africa, Asia, and finally, Australia.
In a celebratory post on Instagram on Tuesday, Asinobi expressed pride in her accomplishment, declaring, “Our Nigerian flag is officially the first and fastest flag to visit all 7 continents! I guess my work here is done. I cannot wait to be homeeeee.”
Her feat was not without its hurdles. Traveling on a Nigerian passport presented challenges, including visa delays, flight disruptions, and stringent travel restrictions.
At one point, she was denied boarding on a flight to Perth, Australia, forcing her to reschedule and land in Sydney later than planned.
Reflecting on the intensity of her adventure, Asinobi humorously recounted how even in sleep, the pressures of travel followed her.
She shared, “Gosh… Continent 8 (Dreamland) was kind to me. No visas needed, no flight needed, just a bed. To be honest any bed would have been fine. I just needed my swollen feet to not move for a few hours and all I can say is… mission accomplished.
As I was sleeping I heard ‘this is the final boarding call…’ and I jumped out of bed startled only to realize it was only a dream. That’s not normal.”
Though she fell short of breaking the Guinness World Record of 64 hours set by American veteran Johnny Cruz Buckingham, Asinobi’s journey has ignited conversations about passport inequality and the barriers Nigerians face when traveling globally.
As she prepares for her homecoming event on March 30, she aims to set yet another record, bringing Nigerians together to sign the flag she proudly carried across the world.
