Two bodies were reportedly recovered from the rubble of a two-storey building that collapsed at Mbodo, Aluu, Ikwerre Local Council of Rivers State.
It was said that the incident happened on Friday evening, with more occupants allegedly still trapped in the ruins.
The Public Relation Officer of NSCDC, Rivers State Command, Olufemi Ayodele confirmed the incident.
Ayodele, in a statement quoted the state command of NSCDC, Michael Ogar, who visited the scene, said the cause of the incident was due to the use of substandard materials.
According to an eyewitness, Nnam Ebulu, who was within the vicinity when the incident happened, the collapsed building was an annex of a hotel allegedly leaned on a fence bordering a waterlogged property.
It was reported that, there was a joint team of emergency responders from the National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA,, and the Nigeria Security Civil Defense ,NSCDC.
The Chairman of the local council, Dr. Samuel Nwanosike, who was seen at the scene, had mobilised a bulldozer to assist the rescue operation.
