Troops of the Nigerian Army have successfully intercepted Boko Haram/Islamic State of West African Province terrorists who were crossing the border from Cameroon to Nigeria.
This was disclosed by the Deputy Director, Defence Media Operation, Brigadier General Abdullahi Ibrahim, during the biweekly briefing of the Defence Headquarters in Abuja.
It was gathered that the intercepted terrorists were found to be in possession of weapons and other logistical resources.
According to the report, Operations Hadin Kai troops engaged in a firefight resulting in the elimination of five terrorists. Additionally, they apprehended 10 terrorists and seized various weapons, as well as logistical supplies such as bags of flour and detergent.
“Troops of Operation Hadin Kai troops on June 22, 2023, following an intelligence report on terrorists crossing from Cameroon to Nigeria, laid ambush along Bula Yobe-Darel Jamel in Bama Local Government Area of Borno State and made contact with the terrorists. Following a firefight, troops neutralized five Boko Haram Terrorists/Islamic State of West Africa Province terrorists and recovered one bag each of flour and detergent.
“Furthermore, between June 15 and 20 troops arrested 10 Boko Haram Terrorists/Islamic State of West Africa Province terrorists collaborators and suppliers at different locations within the general area of operations and recovered some logistic supplies meant for the terrorists including mosquito nets, mosquito coils, 2 bags of sugar and the sum of N246,235.00,” the report stated.
He also said that soldiers killed Naoib Jundullah, who was the leader of a group of terrorists.
Ibrahim said, “Following the operation, troops ambush and neutralized a notorious Boko Haram Terrorists/Islamic State of West Africa Province terrorists commander identified as Naoib Jundullah and recovered 1 AK47 rifle loaded with 4 rounds of 7.62mm special ammo.”
He also said that 967 terrorists in total turned themselves in to the military during the time period under consideration.
Ibrahim said, “Equally, troops’ offensive operations against terrorists in the theatre of operations a total of 967 terrorists comprising of 82 adult males, 354 adult females and 531 children surrendered to troops at different locations within the joint area of operations”
