The Multinational Joint Task Force has killed over 55 Islamic State-West Africa Province terrorists, including key commanders, in Arege, Malam Fatori, and Abadam Local Government Areas of Borno State.
According to The PUNCH, this was disclosed by the Niger Ministry of Defence upon the completion of Operation HARBIN ZUMA, a 22-day operation aimed against ISWAP strongholds.
It was stated that the operation was coordinated by Sector 3 and Sector 4 of the MNJTF.
The operation began on May 6, 2023, and concluded on May 28, 2023.
During the 22-day Operation HARBIN ZUMA, several senior ISWAP commanders, including Fiya Abouzeid, Qad Abou Oumama, and Qad Malam Moustapha, as well as religious leaders whose identities are unknown, were reportedly slain. The Niger-Nigerian Air Task Force and land forces collaborated to locate and severely damage the enemy.
The military destroyed 13 automobiles, 13 motorbikes, and five vehicle-borne improvised explosive devices.
During the operation, two Nigérienne Sector 4 MNJTF soldiers were killed, three were mildly injured, and one phantom Mrap was damaged.
However, the Niger Ministry did not disclose any Nigerian casualties.
