Suspected hoodlums attacked the the officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps and operational vehicles in Jos, Plateau State while rescuing accident victims.
In a statement released on Friday by FRSC spokesman, Bisi Kazeem, Corps Marshal, Dauda Biu, condemned the attack.
Confirming, the Corps Public Education Officer, Assistant Corps Marshal, Bisi Kazeem, on Friday in Abuja, said Biu made the remark while reacting to the recent attack on FRSC personnel.
While condemning the attack, the Corps Marshal, Dauda Biu, described the act as unfortunate and uncalled-for, noting that the attack could have a demoralising effect on the operatives.
Biu stressed that the officials of the corps were carrying out their lawful duty of rescuing crash victims following a fatal crash that occurred on Bauchi Road Street, Jos, on April, 27 at 13.30 p.m.
The News Agency of Nigeria reported that the crash involved a diesel laden tanker that instantly went into flames.
According to NAN, the crash killed 13 people, leaving 10 victims injured and burnt down eight motor vehicles, six tricycles and two motorcycles.
Biu stated further that the two teams detailed to carryout rescue of the crash victims were stormed by sympathisers and suspected hoodlums.
“They came out in their hundreds, burning down one FRSC patrol vehicle and damaging many parts of the ambulance that was to rescue the injured victims to the hospital.
“The attack also left three operatives with severe injuries on their heads and other parts of their bodies,” he said.
While sympathising with the victims of the crash, the Corps Marshal urged the public to stop carrying out unprovoked attacks on FRSC personnel and its facilities both in the operational front and within its command premises.
Biu then commended the Nigeria Police Force, and other security organisations who acted swiftly to calm the tension, dispersing the angry mob and restore normalcy on the route.
