The Sokoto State Government has pledged utmost attention to education in view of its importance to the development of the society.
The State Governor, Ahmad Aliyu, made the pledge at the maiden matriculation ceremony of North-West University Sokoto, for the 2022/2023 academic session, held at the institution’s premises along Kalambaina Road in Sokoto, according to Leadership.
Governor Aliyu commended Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko for establishing the pioneer private university in the state.
He noted that, in line with his administration’s declaration of education as one of its nine-point agenda, the state government would sponsor 85 qualified indigenes of the state to study various courses in the university.
Speaking, Founder of the North-West University Sokoto, Senator Aliyu Wamakko, said the purpose of the university was to “serve as a center of innovation and research for sustainable development, healthcare, agriculture and technology in the state and the North-West region in general”.
He expressed delight that the university came at the right time in the administration of a state government that valued education much.
Also speaking, Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Ahmad lbrahim Maigari, said “the North-West University is a full-fleged private university licensed by the National Universities Commission in 2022”.
The university has three faculties: Computer Science, Education, and Management and Social Science, with 15 departments and a population of 200 students.
