The Nigeria Police Force has expressed concern over ongoing unprofessional conduct by some officers, including fraudulent acts carried out under the guise of the Inspector-General of Police.
This was disclosed in a statement released on December 28, 2024, by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi.
The statement highlighted the persistence of unethical behavior among certain officers, which continues to undermine public trust in the police force.
According to the police, some officers have resorted to using the name and office of the IGP to intimidate and defraud unsuspecting citizens.
“Despite repeated warnings and disciplinary measures, some officers are still engaging in shameful acts that erode public trust. It is even more disturbing that the name of the IGP is being fraudulently used to lend legitimacy to these illegal activities,” the statement read.
The NPF warned the public to be cautious when approached by individuals claiming to have connections with the IGP or other senior officers for undue influence or personal favors.
“We urge members of the public to report any misconduct by police officers to their superiors, the Complaint Response Unit in their state, or the Commissioner of Police. Contact details for the CRU have been previously published for easy access,” the statement added.
The police also provided direct contact numbers for key officers to whom complaints can be made, including: DCP Akin Fakorede, Head, IGP Monitoring Unit, Force Headquarters, Abuja: 08184077076, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, Force Public Relations Officer, Force Headquarters, Abuja: 08037168147, CSP Taiwo Oyewale, Head, IGP Special Investigation Unit, Force Headquarters, Abuja: 08069318238SP Sherriff Lawal, ADC to the IGP: 08094712605
The statement reaffirmed the police’s commitment to professionalism and integrity, calling on citizens to collaborate in reporting any suspicious activities.
“The Nigeria Police Force assures Nigerians of its dedication to upholding the highest standards of integrity and professionalism. We encourage everyone to report suspicious activities promptly to ensure justice and fairness prevail,” ACP Adejobi stated.
