The operatives of the Adamawa State Police Command have arrested two teenage boys, identified as Suleiman Shuaibu and Abdulazeez Sani, following an incident where they allegedly robbed a woman of her phone while brandishing a knife.
This was made known by the state command’s Spokesperson Suleiman Nguroje, speaking on the latest Shila Boys incident, said the boys were in Police detention.
The youths were turned over to the police by concerned residents who witnessed the event on Tuesday, October 10.
Suleiman is 25 years old, while Abdulazeez is 14.
The suspects, identified as part of a group known as “Shila Boys,” notorious for theft in Adamawa State, targeted a woman near the Jimeta Modern Market in Yola.
It was gathered that they brandished a knife, demanded her bag, and stole her phone but unknown to them, vigilant residents had been observing.
As the teenagers tried to escape with the stolen item when the community members intervened, apprehended the young thieves, and promptly turned them over to the police.
Reports revealed that this was a case that could have led to jungle justice, a few of which Yola has actually witnessed in the past, leading to the killing of a number of these boys who appear to be waxing stronger these days.
“Investigations are continuing. The suspects will be prosecuted as they may be found liable,” the Police spokesman assured.
