The Trade Union Congress in Cross River has criticized the state goverment’s attitude towards the welfare of civil servants in the state, adding welfare of the civil servants did not improve under current administration.
The TUC Chairman, Monday Ogbodum made this criticism while speaking with newsmen on the welfare of workers under Ben Ayade’s eight years administration, noting that civil servants have not experience promotion in the last seven years.
Ogbodum lamented that apart from regular payment of salaries and pensions, workers’ welfare had not improved under the current government.
While expressing worries that the last time retirees were paid gratuity was in 2014, he pointed out that promotion for workers since 2016 has not been 100 percent implemented.
Speaking on payment of gratuities, he said a committee set up by the government fased after the initial release of N200 million in January to April 2022.
According to TUC chairman, the funds did not accommodate all retirees in the month of March 2014, yet no additional funds have been released, Ogbodum said.
“Therefore, payment of gratuities to state retirees from April 2014 and local government workers from 2012 is still pending,” he added.
The Labour leader said governmenr has breached the MoU entered into concerning annual incremental rate.
“Supply of computers: Workers’ salaries were deducted for this purpose and up till now, some workers have not been supplied computers.
“The committee as captured in the MoU to ascertain the outstanding liabilities has not been set up by the government,” the TUC chairman added.
Ogbodum, the State Chairman of the Senior Civil Servants Association of Nigeria, called on the incoming administration of Bassey Otu to focus workers’ welfare.
