Social critic and human rights activist, Aisha Yesufu, has alleged that the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, is not supposed to be a money making organization, adding making N50 billion means the board is over charging students.
Yesufu made this disclosure in a post on X, while reacting to the report from The PUNCH, ‘JAMB under Oloyede made N50bn for FG in one year’.
The PUNCH had reported that Vice President Kashim Shettima revealed that Prof Ishaq Oloyede is the first Registrar of the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board to have made over N50bn for the Federal Government within a year.
Shettima disclosed this during a public engagement organised by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.
The Vice President, speaking on the issue of corruption in the public sector, noted that JAMB never made up to $1m for the Federal Government before Oloyede assumed office.
Shettima said, “One person I always respect is Prof Ishaq Oloyede. Over the years, JAMB never made upto $1m for the Federal Government.
“However, when Prof Oloyede assumed office, JAMB made over ₦50bn for the Federal Government in one year.”
Meanwhile, the statement didn’t go down well with Yesufu, who suggested that the Education body might be overcharging Nigerian students.
Yesufu suggested that JAMB might be widening the educational inequality gap in the country by extorting the poor and vulnerable students.
The activist declared that JAMB was not supposed to be a money making organization.
She wrote, “Let me say what I have said before. JAMB is not supposed to be a money making organization.
“JAMB making 50bn means JAMB is over charging students.
“I will even call it extortion of poor and vulnerable students and widening the educational inequality gap.”
