Motorcycle operators, popularly called Okada riders, and Lagos State Task Force operatives reportedly clashed at the Idi Araba area of the state on Tuesday.
This comes after the Lagos government on June 1 banned motorcycle operations in some Local Government Areas, namely, Apapa, Eti Osa, Ikeja, Lagos Island, Surulere and Lagos Mainland.
The authorities already seized a large number of bikes which are now routinely crushed publicly.
Reacting to Tuesday’s face-off, the Lagos Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, denied reports which suggested the riders clashed with the security personnel.
“The Taskforce went well prepared. They (riders) were just causing a scene after Taskforce left with some of their impounded motorcycles.”
Hundeyin said the Rapid Response Squad and men from the area command were drafted to the scene, adding that there’s “absolutely nothing to worry about”.
