The Kano State Police Command has reported the arrest of 30 individuals for their alleged involvement in an attempt to disrupt a state-sponsored mass wedding ceremony conducted on Friday for indigent residents.
According to The PUNCH, the Kano State government organized a wedding Fatiha, a ceremony marking the union of young girls and boys, widows, and divorcees, with around 3,600 couples participating.
Commissioner of Police in Kano State, Mr. Usaini Gumel, revealed that the arrests took place during the event.
He stated that the majority of the suspects had come from neighboring states with the intention of causing havoc and disrupting the mass wedding.
Gumel emphasized the commitment of the police to maintaining safety in Kano. He mentioned that during the mass wedding, some individuals had attempted to disrupt the event, but the police intervened, leading to the arrest of 30 suspects.
Further investigations revealed that many of these individuals had come from neighboring states.
“Some of them came with master keys with the intention to steal vehicles, but their plans were aborted,” Gumel stated.
He expressed satisfaction with the security measures that ensured the safety of lives and property during the large-scale event.
Gumel reassured residents and visitors, saying, “Kano is a peaceful state. People should feel free to visit Kano.” The successful management of the mass wedding event demonstrated the police’s commitment to maintaining security in the region.
