Harry Kane will be absent from Bayern Munich’s final home game of the season against Wolfsburg due to a back problem that also forced him off in the Champions League semi-final,
Bayern head coach, Thomas Tuchel disclosed this in a statement on Saturday.
Bayern, currently placed third in the Bundesliga, have a chance to reclaim the second spot when they face Wolfsburg on Sunday.
However, with champions Bayer Leverkusen out of reach, Bayern’s focus will be on securing their position in the league table.
In the Champions League semi-final second leg against Real Madrid last Wednesday, Kane was substituted in the 85th minute with Bayern leading 1-0. Unfortunately for Kane, Real Madrid scored twice thereafter, ending Bayern’s hopes of winning the tie and Kane’s dreams of claiming his first career trophy.
After the Madrid game, Tuchel said Kane “played with back pain and couldn’t keep going, his back froze up”.
On Saturday, the coach told his press conference that “Harry Kane still has back problems”.
Kane has scored 44 club goals this season, his highest personal tally, but has been unable to halt Bayern’s slide towards a first trophy-less season since 2011-12.
Harry Kane currently leads the Bundesliga’s top scorers with 36 goals, a remarkable 10 goals ahead of Serhou Guirassy of Stuttgart.
Also, Tuchel confirmed that Leroy Sane, Jamal Musiala, and Serge Gnabry will join Kane on the sidelines.
Tuchel stated that the German trio is also expected to miss Bayern’s final game of the season, which will also mark Tuchel’s last game in charge at Bayern, against Hoffenheim on May 18th.
“The attacking players who started against Real Madrid can’t play tomorrow,” Tuchel said, adding that Gnabry’s problem could threaten his participation in the European Championship, which start on June 14.
“It’s going to be super tight for the Euros,” said Tuchel.
