Nigeria’s Flamingos played a 1-1 stalemate against Burkina Faso in Bamako, Mali, in the first leg, third round of the 2024 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup qualifiers on Saturday.
The Flamingos seemed poised for victory, taking the lead with a goal from Chidi Harmony in the 55th minute after dominating much of the game.
However, Burkina Faso managed to equalize with less than 10 minutes remaining in the second half, thanks to Rainata Oubda scoring in the 84th minute.
The return leg is scheduled for May 18 inside the MKO Abiola Stadium in Abuja.
The winner between the Flamingos and Burkina Faso will advance to the final qualifying round.
The 2924 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup will be held in the Dominican Republic, with the 16-team tournament scheduled to run from October 16 to November 3, 2024.
