A former Secretary to the Oyo State Government, Chief Michael Adeniyi Koleosho has died at the age of 86.
His death occurred on the evening of Monday, September 2, 2024.
Chief Koleosho, who was a significant presence in Nigerian politics, served as Secretary to the State Government during the administration of the late Governor Lam Adesina.
He also held the position of National Chairman of the Alliance for Democracy party. In addition to his political roles, he was recognised as the Babalaje of Sakiland.
Born on April 30, 1938, in the Emi-Abata family of Saki, Koleosho began his education at Baptist Primary School in Ajegunle, Saki. He later attended Olivet Baptist High School in Oyo from 1957 to 1961.
Koleosho continued his studies at the School of Hygiene in Eleyele, Ibadan, where he earned an Ordinary National Diploma and an Advanced Certificate which is equivalent to a Higher National Diploma in 1965 and 1966.
Koleosho’s political career began in 1976 when he was elected unopposed as a councillor in Ifedapo Local Government Area of the former Oyo State.
In 1979, he was elected to the Oyo State House of Assembly, representing Ifedapo Constituency under the Unity Party of Nigeria led by Chief Obafemi Awolowo. He was later appointed as a commissioner by Chief Bola Ige, the first executive governor of Oyo State.
