A yet-to-be-identified man reportedly slumped and died inside a bank(name unknown) in Agbor, Delta State.
According to the Tribune, the man was said to have queued for hours to collect his Automated Teller Machine Card at the bank in the Ika South Local Government Area of the State.
According to the publication, the incident was confirmed by the state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Bright Edafe.
“He was not trying to withdraw cash; he came to collect his ATM card”, he was quoted to have said.
Nigerians have been forced to wait long hours at banks nationwide over the scarcity of the new naira notes.
The influx of customers seeking to withdraw over the counter and ATM points has affected other bank transactions nationwide, leading to long queues.
Buhari to resolve naira crisis in seven days
Premium Politics reported on Friday that the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), requested that Nigerians give him seven days to address the current cash crunch in the nation.
“I will revert to the CBN and the Minting Company. There will be a decision one way or the other in the remaining seven days of the 10-day extension,” the president assured after a closed-door meeting with governors.
This is just as a protest erupted in Ibadan, Oyo State capital as a result of the scarcity of the new naira and fuel.
The angry protesters stormed the office of the Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, to protest the hardship and ended up vandalizing the office out of rage.
This forced the governor who is seeking a second term in office in the forthcoming elections that is about 22 days away to suspend campaigns in the state.
A statement signed by the state’s Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism, Dr. Wasiu Olatubosun, read, “As a mark of honour to citizens and residents of Oyo State, the Executive Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde, has direct that all campaign activities of the party at all levels be suspended until further notice.”
He added, “Governor Seyi Makinde’s love for his people necessitated this unprecedented move, at this time. We urge all residents and citizens of the state to remain calm as we navigate through this difficult period together.”
