The pastor of the Church of the Brethren in Moduganari, Maiduguri, Borno State, Reverend Alaku Vincent, ha suddenly collapsed and died during a child dedication service on Sunday.
The cleric who was actively leading the congregation through the ceremony, slumped mid-service, shocking the worshippers in attendance.
Witnesses recounted that efforts to resuscitate Reverend Vincent were immediate but ultimately futile, as he was pronounced dead shortly after losing consciousness.
The cause of his death has not yet been officially disclosed, leaving many to grieve without clarity.
In the wake of the pastor’s sudden passing, church members and colleagues have taken to social media to express their deep sorrow and share tributes.
The District Church Secretary of the Church of the Brethren in Nigeria, Timothy Hammajam, honoured the late pastor in a heartfelt Facebook post, describing him as “a visionary leader with focus.” Reflecting on Vincent’s influence, he added, “KBC DCM 2003 graduating class will ever miss your elderly and prophetic words. May God comfort EYN and your family.”
Another church member, Prince Malikson Papaman, also shared a touching tribute on Facebook. “Just a few hours ago, he stood confidently on the altar… passionately shepherding his flock,” Papaman wrote. He recalled Vincent’s last sermon, “His powerful message still resonates in my mind, as he emphasized the importance of family unity in worship. Little did I know it would be his final sermon.”
Describing the loss as creating an “unfillable void,” Papaman found solace in the Bible’s assurance, noting that Reverend Vincent’s death is but a passage into rest. He concluded his tribute by saying, “Rest in eternal peace, Rev. Vincent Alaku. Until we meet again.”
As the church community continues to mourn, the memory of Reverend Vincent’s devotion and his final message of unity remains a powerful reminder of his spiritual impact.
