Twelve model schools in the eight local governments of Bayelsa have received computers and other equipment for coding and robotics practicals from the Bayelsa Educational Development Trust Fund.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, on Wednesday in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa state commissioner for education, Dr. Gentle Emelah, delivered the supplies to the principals of the receiving schools. He reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to delivering high-quality instruction throughout the entire state.
He added that the presentation of the items came after 103 students had previously received instruction in computer programming and robotics, and that the equipment will give pupils the chance to receive training in practice.
He asked the principals to provide the Information and Communications Technology teachers who had had earlier coding and robotics training with the computers and instructional materials.
The event also featured the championship round of the Schools Debate, which was sponsored by EDTF and involved 32 schools from the eight council areas of Bayelsa.
The EDTF’s executive secretary, Dr. Alice Atuwo, stated earlier that the fund is acting in crucial areas of the educational industry, such as the support for schools debate.
She saw that young kids’ search for knowledge was aided by public speaking and communication abilities being developed in schools.
She added that debate helps participants’ self-confidence grow and that most international leaders learned public speaking abilities in school.
The students were instructed by the Interim Chairman of EDTF, Prof. Francis Ikoki, to take full advantage of the chance to hone their public speaking abilities, which they would find helpful in the future.
The Regent of the Tarakiri clan in Bayelsa, Chief Fidelis Agbiki, also mentioned that he was a product of school debate and received a scholarship from the late Governor Sam Ogbemudia of the old Bendel State for his remarkable achievement in debate more than 40 years ago.
The first award of N100,000 and a trophy went to Government Comprehensive Secondary School Tumgbo in the Sagbama Local Government Area, and the second prize of N70,000 and a trophy went to Community Secondary School Ekeremor in the Ekeremor LGA.
Government Model Secondary School Twon-Brass in Brass LGA came in fourth and received a prize of N30,000 and a trophy, while Bayelsa State Sports Academy, Asuama, in Kolokuma/Opokuma LGA placed third and received a prize of N40,000 and a trophy.
