Super Eagles stars, Taiwo Awoniyi and Ola Aina played pivotal roles in Nottingham Forest’s crucial 3-1 victory against Sheffield United, boosting their fight against relegation.
Awoniyi, returning from a muscle injury that sidelined him since March, made a late appearance, coming on in the 90th minute. Aina, on the other hand, featured for the entire 90 minutes in the morale-boosting win.
The win elevated Forest to 29 points, placing them just three points clear of the relegation zone with two matches remaining.
Sheffield initially took the lead through Brereton Diaz in the 17th minute, but Callum Hudson-Odoi equalized for Forest in the 27th minute.
Ryan Yates then put Forest ahead 2-1 in the 51st minute, with Hudson-Odoi securing the victory with his second goal of the game in the 65th minute, making it 3-1.
In another Premier League match, Alex Iwobi and Calvin Bassey featured for Fulham in a goalless draw against Brentford.
Frank Onyeka, their Super Eagles teammate, was brought on with eight minutes remaining. Fulham currently sit in 12th place, while Brentford are in 16th place in the league table.
Meanwhile, Newcastle United kept their hopes of European qualification alive with a convincing 4-1 win against relegation-threatened Burnley.
