A 50-year-old woman, identified as Ukamaka Udeugbo, has been arrested by the personnel of the Anambra police command for flogging and kicking her 75-year-old mother.
The incident took place in Abagana, Njikoka Local Government Area, and was caught on camera showing the suspect assaulting her mother, whom she had accused of urinating in the home.
Numerous individuals have condemned the video, which has been widely shared on social media.
Udeugbo has been detained and will be prosecuted, according to a spokesperson for the Anambra State Police Command, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga.
The police spokesperson stated: “Operatives attached to Abagana Division have also rescued the aged woman being cruelly treated by another woman at Umudunu village, Abagana. She has been handed over to the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Welfare.
“The suspect, Ukamaka Udeugbo, 50, turned out to be her biological daughter in a video clip that went viral. The suspect who flogged the naked, aged woman repeatedly and threw buckets of water on her while she was lying on the floor has been arrested and detained for prosecution.
“Commissioner of Police Aderemi Adeoye has directed the transfer of the case to the State CID in the public interest and has authorised that the aged woman be handed to the Commissioner for Women Affairs for adequate care by the state government. The suspect is to be arraigned in court at the end of the investigation.”
