The Christian Association of Nigeria in Abia State, on Tuesday, handed over the leadership mantle to its new state chairman, Rev’d Ojo Ojo Uduma, with a plea to the state Governor, Alex Otti, to inaugurate the new executive soonest.
Handing over to the new State CAN Chairman, the outgone Chairman, Apostle Emmanuel Agomuo, described CAN as not a political organization and advised the new leadership not to fight the government of the day but to pray for it and approach it with good counsel that would engender peace and development in the state.
Tribune reported that he urged Governor Otti to recognize CAN in Abia and inaugurate the new leadership, noting that the former administration in the state failed to inaugurate the executive that just served out its tenure.
Responding on behalf of other members of the executive, the new CAN Chairman, Rev. Ojo Ojo Uduma, said he was happy to be elected to lead Abia CAN at a period the state has a positive change they have been yearning for and assured they would sustain their prayers for the governor and the people of the state to enable him to achieve his dreams for the State.
The new CAN Chairman, who is of the TEKAN/ECWA bloc of the Christian Association of Nigeria doubles as well as the Chairman of Aba District of Evangelical Church Winning All, which covers Cross River, Akwa Ibom, parts of Rivers, parts of Imo and Abia State, said he would do his job well and will sensitize Christians in the state accordingly.
In his speech after the handover, the Special Assistant to Otti on Religious Activities, Apostle Kenneth Wiper, charged religious leaders in the state to put a check on leaders in the society to ensure good governance in Abia State and beyond.
Apostle Wiper attributed failure in speaking up as one of the things that has kept the state in jeopardy since over 20 years, adding that the present administration led by Alex Otti has many spiritual projects to roll out, assuring that it would partner CAN in the state to achieve success.
The Special Assistant, who commended Apostle Agomuo for setting a precedence of good leadership in CAN, encouraged the new executive of CAN in the state to see themselves as a springboard to take the body of Christ in Abia to a greater height.
