Kidnappers who abducted Abdulsalam Rabi’u, the winner of the National Qur’anic Recitation Competition, along with his family, have demanded a ₦30 million ransom for their release.
According to The PUNCH, Rabi’u, who hails from Katsina State, clinched victory in the Hizb 60 with Tajweed category of the national competition held in Kebbi State earlier this year.
In recognition of his achievement, Governor Dikko Umar Radda had invited him to the Katsina Government House for a special ceremony on Tuesday, March 11.
However, tragedy struck as Rabi’u, his father, and five other family members were abducted on their way back to their hometown in Faskari.
Confirming the incident, Commissioner for Information and Culture, Bala Salisu-Zango, revealed that the kidnappers made contact with the family and demanded a ₦30 million ransom.
“We received information on Friday regarding the ransom demand. The state government is deeply concerned, and Governor Radda has instructed security agencies to take all necessary steps to ensure the safe release of the victims,” Salisu-Zango stated.
The commissioner assured the public that security operatives were actively working to secure the family’s freedom, adding that the government would not relent in its efforts to tackle insecurity in the state.
