Operatives from the Plateau State Police Command apprehended two individuals on Monday in Jos North Local Government Area amidst a 24-hour curfew imposed by the state government.
This curfew, affecting Jos and Bukuru metropolis, was implemented after attempts to disrupt peace under the banner of #EndBadGovernance in Nigeria protests.
The suspects were reportedly attempting to vandalize and loot shops near the C Division in Jos when police intervened, capturing two while others escaped.
According to The PUNCH, the Plateau State Police spokesperson Alabo Alfred confirmed the arrests in Jos, stating that those detained will face investigation and prosecution according to the law.
“Our duty is to enforce the curfew, and the state remains calm,” Alfred said. “The two individuals were arrested for attempting to vandalize property. They will be investigated and duly prosecuted.”
Alfred urged residents to stay vigilant, abide by the curfew, and support security efforts to maintain peace. “We ask the people to remain peaceful and support the security agents and the state government in their efforts to uphold the prevailing peace in the state,” he added.
