The Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami SAN, has revealed that the Federal Government under the administration of the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), has profiled 3000 cases of terrorism, adding that 15000 have been prosecuted with 397 convictions.
According to Nairametrics, he stated this at 17th Edition of President Muhammadu Buhari’s Administration Scorecard Series on Thursday.
He further stated that the Federal Government is now arranging the next phase of terrorism-related cases with the Federal High Court, the Legal Aid Council, and the Defence Headquarters.
Malami stated that out of the 3000 cases profiled, the FG was able to secure 297 convictions, mentioning 7000 profiled cases and a variety of other offenses such as marine, armed robbery, vandalism of electrical infrastructure and pipelines, financial problems, and cybercrime.
“A total of 3,000 Terrorism cases have been profiled to date out of which over 1500 cases were prosecuted, with 397 convictions realised.
“A total of 7000 cases involving various offences including maritime, armed robbery, vandalisation of electrical equipment and pipelines, financial matters, cybercrime, kidnapping and anti-corruption have been successfully prosecuted”, he said.
He further stated that the FG is organizing the next phase of terrorism-related trials and strengthening collaborations with relevant security and Law Enforcement Agency to build a framework for cooperative investigations.
