Barcelona midfielder Dani Olmo is set to be sidelined for approximately a month due to a hamstring injury, the club announced on Monday.
The Spanish international was in fine form during Barcelona’s dominant 4-1 victory over Girona in La Liga on Sunday, netting a goal before being forced off the field after picking up the injury.
“Tests conducted this Monday morning on Dani Olmo have revealed that the Barcelona forward has injured his right hamstring,” read the club’s official statement. “He is expected to be unavailable for the next four to five weeks.”
Olmo’s absence comes at a crucial time for both Barcelona and Spain. He will miss key Champions League fixtures against Monaco and Young Boys, along with several important La Liga matches.
His injury also rules him out of Spain’s Nations League clashes against Denmark and Serbia, scheduled for early October.
The 26-year-old midfielder, who has made an instant impact since arriving from RB Leipzig this summer, tallying three goals in just three appearances for Barcelona, is now aiming to recover in time for two major fixtures later in October.
He could return for Barcelona’s Champions League group stage showdown against Bayern Munich on October 23 and the highly anticipated El Clasico against Real Madrid on October 27.
Olmo’s absence leaves Barcelona coach Hansi Flick with fewer attacking options during a pivotal stretch of the season.
