Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum, has pledged his commitment to helping traders of two separate markets which were gutted by fire in the State.
According to The PUNCH, the cooking oil, orange and spices sections of the Gamboru Market, Maiduguri, were razed, as the timber section of the Biu Central Market, over 200 kilometers south of Maiduguri, suffered a similar fate.
According to eyewitnesses, the Biu Central market’s timber sector caught fire about 10am, while the fire at the Gamboru Market began in the orange sellers’ part at around 2.30 p.m.
Babagana Zulum, who visited Gamboru Market to inspect the situation firsthand, praised the fire department’s quick action in putting out the fire before it could spread to the entire market.
He also praised the security personnel’s quick action in stopping looters from entering the burning building.
He announced that he will make another assessment of the market to thoroughly evaluate the extent of the damage and form a committee to compensate the victims and repair the affected areas.
