The Zamfara Joint Health Sector Unions have issued a warning of impending strike action at the Ahmad Sani Bakura Specialist Hospital in Gusau, citing the non-implementation of promotion arrears owed to their members.
This threat was articulated in a letter directed to the State Head of Service and made available to the media on Thursday in Gusau.
The correspondence, co-signed by the Chairman of JOHESU, Sani Rabi’u, and the Secretary, Aminu Abdullahi, expresses deep concern over the state’s inaction regarding the Consolidated Health Salary Structure Adjustment approved by the state government in June 2024.
In the letter, the unions emphasized the urgency of the situation, “We wish to inform the state government that up to date, we have not seen any action taken by the state government.”
They articulated their frustration and outlined their course of action, stating, “We resolved to stage a peaceful protest immediately if the Oct. 2024 salary is paid without implementation and payment of four months of outstanding arrears to our members from June to September 2024.”
The unions further declared that following the protest, they would provide the state government with a two-week ultimatum before commencing an indefinite strike, which would lead to a total shutdown of the hospital.
The situation has prompted urgent discussions among healthcare professionals and government officials alike, as the unions prepare for potential unrest if their demands are not met.
