The Kebbi State Command of the Nigerian Police Force has cautioned state residents against using fireworks and knockouts during the upcoming Christmas and New Year festivities.
The warning was conveyed through a statement issued by the command’s spokesperson, SP Nafiu Abubakar.
Abubakar emphasized that the Commissioner of Police, CP Chris Aimionowane, is dedicated to upholding the existing peaceful coexistence within the state.
It read, “In his determination to sustain the already existing peaceful atmosphere during the Yuletide season, the Commissioner of Police, Kebbi State Command, CP Chris Aimionowane, has today, Friday, December 22, 2023, met with the Area Commanders, DPOs, and tactical commanders to strengthen the security architecture around religious and event/recreational centres throughout the length and breadth of the state.
“The CP equally directed them to always collaborate with other relevant security agencies in deploying both human and material arsenals at their disposal to ensure that the purposes of visibility policing, rigorous stop and search, aggressive patrols, raiding of identified black spots, and uncompleted buildings across the nooks and crannies of the state are achieved, thus bringing about the expected conducive atmosphere before, during, and after the Christmas and New Year celebrations.
“While felicitating with the Christian faithful in the state, the CP warns against the use of knockouts, fireworks, or firecrackers during the Yuletide season, as their use may likely cause panic or apprehension in the minds of unsuspecting members of the public.”
