No fewer than four people have been arrested by the Lagos State Police, in connection with the violence that erupted during a rally organized by the Yoruba Nation Agitators in Lagos, on Monday.
Punch Metro reported that one person was killed as the group organized a rally at the popular Gani Fawehinmi park in Ojota Lagos on January 9, 2023.
It was gathered that the police dispersed the agitators with teargas canisters during a peaceful rally that ended up in violence.
Professor Banji Akintoye, one of the leaders of Ilana Omo Oodua while speaking on the incident, alleged that the police officers killed two of their members during what he called ”a peaceful rally.”
However, the spokesperson for Lagos State Police Command, Benjamin Hundeyin, while reacting to the incident through his Twitter handle on Tuesday, stated that four people have been arrested in connection with the incident and the investigation is ongoing.
“The suspects arrested yesterday are Olatunji Abatan, Afeez Adekoya, Nwosa Henry and Ganiyu Sakajojo. Investigation is ongoing at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Yaba, Lagos,” he said.
It would be recalled that a similar incident happened around the same area on July 3, 2021 which resulted in the death of one of the residents of the area identified as Jumoke Oyeleke who was killed by a stray bullet shot by the police during a protest organised by Yoruba Nation Agitators.
