After an improvement in security, the Yobe State Government has lifted the restriction on motorbike usage in seven local government districts.
According to Daily Post, this was disclosed in a statement released on Monday by Special Adviser on Security Affairs to Governor Mai Mala Buni, Brigadier General Dahiru Abdulsalam (Rtd), and made available in Damaturu, the state capital.
The announcement claims that the motorcycle riding prohibition in Zone A’s seven local government areas—Bursari, Damaturu, Geidam, Gujba, Gulani, Tarmuwa, and Yunusari—is lifted as of March 6, 2023.
“The embargo is lifted subject to the following requirements:
“Motorcycle operations are permitted from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m daily.
“Achaba, motorcycles are not to be used for business purposes.
“Passengers will not be transported on motorcycles. The motorbike may only have one rider; additional passengers are not permitted.
“The Yobe State Road Traffic Management Agency,YOROTA, and the Yobe State Vehicle Licensing Authority should properly register, license, and document all motorbikes and riders in the impacted LGAs,” according to the statement.
Additional requirements include that all motorcycle owners must only use their vehicles inside the boundaries of their local governments and that no passengers may be transported. Violators will face penalties in accordance with current laws and regulations.
The security services were additionally instructed to monitor and guarantee strict adherence to the recommendations by the statement.
Recall that the ban was made 11 years ago due to the Boko Haram insurgence but the relative security being experienced across the 17 local government areas of the state has made it possible for the state government to lift the ban.
