Ahead of Super Falcons second group stage match against Australia at the FIFA Women’s World Cup Australia and New Zealand 2023, President Bola Tinubu sent his best wishes to the Super Falcons on Wednesday in Abuja.
In a statement signed by the Special Adviser to the President on Special Duties, Communications, and Strategy, Dele Alake, the president stated, “he firmly believes that the upcoming match on Thursday will be a thrilling encounter that will culminate in victory for the Nigerian team”.
Alake stated that Tinubu is optimistic that the team’s mix of young talent and seasoned veterans will help Nigeria’s women’s football team reach new heights in this tournament.
Like other football-loving Nigerians, the President “takes immense pride in the Super Falcons’ impressive performance in the opening match against Canada, a formidable opponent and the reigning Olympic Champion,” the statement stated.
The Super Falcons’ second Group B match will be against Australia on Thursday, July 27 at 11 a.m. (Nigerian time), after they played to a scoreless draw against Canada the day before.
The Matildas of Australia currently top the group with three points, with Nigeria and Canada on one point apiece.
