John Alfred Tinniswood, recognized as the world’s oldest man, has passed away at the age of 112.
He died peacefully on Monday, November 25, 2024, at Hollies Care Home in Southport, England, where he spent his later years.
Guinness World Records confirmed his passing in a statement released on Tuesday.
The statement read, “Guinness World Records is saddened to learn that John Tinniswood, the world’s oldest man, has died at the age of 112. He passed away yesterday (Monday, November 25) at the care home in Southport, England, where he resided. His family told Guinness World Records in a statement: ‘His last day was surrounded by music and love.’”
In an additional statement shared by his family, they expressed gratitude for the support John received throughout his life.
“We are saddened to inform you that John Alfred Tinniswood died peacefully on Monday (November 25) aged 112, at his care home in Southport. His last day was surrounded by music and love. John always liked to say thank you. So, on his behalf, thank you to all those who cared for him over the years, including his carers at the Hollies Care Home, his GPs, district nurses, occupational therapists and other NHS staff. John’s life was one surrounded by love.”
Born on August 26, 1912, to Ada and John Bernard Tinniswood, John lived through over a century of remarkable change.
He married Blodwen Tinniswood, with whom he had a daughter, Susan.
A lifelong supporter of Liverpool FC, John gained international recognition in April 2024, when Guinness World Records officially named him the world’s oldest man after the passing of Juan Vicente Pérez Mora at 114.
John leaves behind his daughter Susan, four grandchildren—Annouchka, Marisa, Toby, and Rupert—and three great-grandchildren, Tabitha, Callum, and Nieve. His life, filled with love and gratitude, will continue to inspire many.
