Chief Munir Balogun, the father of renowned Afrobeats artist, Ayodeji Balogun, popularly known as Wizkid, has weighed in on the ongoing rivalry between his son and fellow musician Davido.
In an exclusive conversation with The PUNCH, Chief Balogun shared his insights into the situation, emphasizing the importance of focus in the face of external distractions.
“I told my son that he shouldn’t look or listen to whatever the boys who are supporters of Davido are saying. The supporters are only looking for what they will say to collect money and all of that,” he remarked.
This perspective reflects his belief that much of the rivalry is fueled by fan provocations rather than genuine animosity between the artists themselves.
He elaborated on the motivations behind fan behaviour, suggesting that many are simply seeking attention and stirring up controversy for personal gain.
“They are just looking for what they are going to eat and I told him not to pay much attention to them,” Chief Balogun added.
His advice underscored a desire for Wizkid to rise above the noise of social media and focus on his music and career.
The elder Balogun expressed his awareness of the ongoing tensions, noting that he has observed the discourse unfold online.
The rivalry between Wizkid and Davido has become a hot topic among fans, sparking countless debates and discussions as both artists continue to dominate the Nigerian music scene.
As two of the biggest names in the industry, their interactions—and the ensuing fan reactions—remain a focal point of interest for many.
