Nigerian award-winning artist, Wizkid’s Essence, is still topping billboards two years after its release.
In the newly released Billboard music recaps for the year, Essence was named the number one song on the U.S. Afrobeats Songs category for 2022.
Essence, which was the 11th song off Wizkid’s fourth studio album, ‘Made in Lagos’, features another Nigerian sensation, Tems and was released in 2020.
In that same year, Wizkid made remix of the song featuring Canadian superstar, Justin Bieber, and it again threw the world off its feet becoming an instant favourite with listeners.
The song is arguably one of the best international hits from Nigeria recently, with awards following in the same year it was released and still topping charts two years after.
Amongst accolades received for the song was a nomination for Best Global Music performance at the Grammy Awards in 2022.
Even more recently, the hit song won the Favourite R&B song in the 50th edition of the American Music Awards.
The song, became popular in the American music scene after several celebrities, including Snoop Dogg and Kylie Jenner, posted videos of themselves dancing to the song in 2021.
