The Ondo State Governor, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu.SAN,has revealed why his led administration did not pay its workers salary for the month of December, 2022.
According to The PUNCH, Akeredolu stated that workers in the state had received their salaries up till November 2022 but the delay in December salary was due to the advice of the labour leaders in the state, to allow workers to meet new year financial obligations.
Akeredolu stated this during the annual prayer meeting with state public servants held at the Governor’s office in Akure, the state capital, on Tuesday, the first working day of the year.
The governor, on the other hand, guaranteed the workers that their December wage would be paid shortly, as well as the one month remaining from the inherited seven months’ salary arrears, which he promised would be paid before the end of his mandate.
“As you are aware, you received three notifications in December,” the governor told the staff. We made payments in October and November of 2022. You were also given a leave bonus. We would have paid in December, but labor leaders encouraged us to postpone payment until January to allow you to satisfy your financial responsibilities. Students will return to class soon. We will pay for your school tuition.
“Also,we inherited seven months salary arrears, we paid six months. Before I leave the office, I will pay the remaining one.”
Concerning the upcoming general elections, the governor urged civil personnel to follow the rules and refrain from becoming politicized when exercising their franchise at the polls.
“Let me reiterate for the umpteenth time that public servants are not expected to be involved in partisan politics. Absolute loyalty and commitment should be the watchword of the service.
“Again, political discourse should be civil with decorum and in statutory manner. You will note that our administration has insulated the bureaucracy from partisan politics,” he urged.
