President of Liberia, George Weah, has publicly backed Morocco’s bid to host the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations after Guinea’s hosting rights were revoked due to its lack of preparations.
In response to “false and misleading claims making rounds in various international media channels,” President Weah made his opinion known. He denied supporting Algeria’s attempt to host the same competition.
Instead, he gave the Moroccan bid his “fullest and strongest” backing, which he has highlighted more to the Moroccan authorities.
“Liberia enthusiastically backs and supports Morocco’s ambition to host the 2025 CAF Nations Cup. I owe King Mohamed VI this promise. He said in a statement obtained by APA on Friday that “it is set in stone.”
Weah emphasized what he called the outstanding investments Morocco continues to make in the growth of football as justification for giving them the opportunity to organize the biggest African football festival.
According to President Weah, he has already started promoting Morocco to football stakeholders across the continent.
After CAF stripped Guinea of its eligibility to host the tournament, Morocco made their bid public.
South Africa and Zambia are two other countries vying to host the coveted competition in addition to Algeria, which is nearby.
Benin and Nigeria are submitting a combined bid to host the event in 2025.
