Celebrated Nigerian songstress, Tiwa Savage, has revealed the depth of her admiration for Ayra Starr, shedding light on her own journey in the music industry.
In a candid interview with Kiss FM UK, Savage shared her experiences of facing harsh criticism for her bold fashion choices and daring lyrics early in her career.
Savage explained that she sees a reflection of her own resilience in Ayra Starr, who has also faced scrutiny from Nigerians for her unique style.
Despite the backlash, Savage expressed her obsession with Ayra Starr’s ability to shine brightly on the global music stage.
The singer’s revelation provides a glimpse into the challenges faced by artists in the spotlight, emphasizing the importance of staying true to oneself despite criticism.
“I love Ayra [Starr]. I’m obsessed with her. She’s amazing and genuine, too. It makes me emotional because when I started, I got criticised a lot for dressing too sexy and my lyrics being too risky.
“So, seeing someone, Ayra now…If I see her wearing the short skirts as they [critics] say, I’m like, ‘Make it shorter.’
“And she looks amazing, she’s extremely talented. Yeah, she’s a star,” Savage said.
