Nigerian crossdresser, Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky, has traced the origin of his recent challenges to a controversial award he received earlier in 2024.
The social media personality, celebrated for his flamboyant lifestyle and bold fashion statements, was awarded Best Dressed Female at the March 2024 premiere of actress Eniola Ajao’s movie Beast of Two Worlds (Ajakaju).
The event, which showcased Nigeria’s best and brightest in the entertainment industry, took an unexpected turn when Bobrisky, despite not being biologically female, clinched the coveted award.
The announcement, accompanied by a one-million-naira cash prize, sparked a heated debate across social media platforms.
Critics questioned the criteria used to name him as the Best Dressed Female, arguing that it disregarded traditional definitions of the category.
In the aftermath of the uproar, Bobrisky revealed that the fallout from the award has brought significant difficulties his way.
He mentioned ongoing issues with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission and the Nigerian Immigration Service, though he stopped short of disclosing specifics.
For Bobrisky, what seemed like a moment of triumph has turned into a source of unrelenting scrutiny.
Addressing the situation in a heartfelt post on his verified Facebook page, Bobrisky expressed regret for accepting the award.
He noted that he would no longer entertain such accolades in the future, particularly those exclusively designed for women.
“My problem started from when I collected the best dressed female with a 1 million prize,” he wrote. “For my life if I see an award for best dressed female I will disappear from that location ASAP.”
