The Chairman of the National Population Commission , Isa Kwarra announced on Tuesday in Abuja that the commission is diligently preparing for the forthcoming National Population and Housing Census.
This initiative aligns with the Federal Government’s efforts to address Nigeria’s socio-economic challenges through comprehensive data collection.
Kwarra emphasized the importance of the census in generating current and inclusive data for evidence-based planning and policymaking.
“As Nigeria’s premier data-generating agency, the commission is dedicated to providing reliable demographic data crucial for national planning and sustainable development,” he stated.
He also called for peace and calm among Nigerians, urging them to refrain from participating in the planned nationwide protest.
While recognizing the right to peaceful assembly and freedom of expression, Kwarra stressed the importance of maintaining national stability and security.
Acknowledging the economic difficulties faced by many Nigerians, Kwarra asked citizens to trust in President Bola Tinubu’s administration and allow time for the implementation of policies aimed at improving living conditions.
He reassured that the President is actively working to address the nation’s challenges and deliver the benefits of democracy as soon as possible.
Kwarra highlighted several government programs designed to improve the standard of living in Nigeria.
These include Social Investment Programs like N-Power, Conditional Cash Transfer, and the Homegrown School Feeding Programme, all aimed at reducing poverty and unemployment.
“The NPC understands the economic hardships and hunger faced by Nigerians, but urges citizens to give the government time to address these challenges.
“The commission calls on Nigerians to have trust in President Bola Tinubu and give the administration time to deliver on its promises of a better Nigeria.
“The President is not unaware of the various challenges in the country.
“Hence, he is working round the clock to put in place policies and programmes that will deliver to Nigerians the full dividends of democracy within the shortest possible time.”
Additionally, he mentioned agricultural and food security initiatives to boost production and reduce import dependence, as well as infrastructure development projects focused on enhancing connectivity and facilitating economic growth.
The introduction of a Student Loan Scheme for Nigerian youth was also noted.
In conclusion, Kwarra urged Nigerians to remain calm and focused, avoiding actions that could jeopardize national peace and stability. The News Agency of Nigeria reports that some groups are organizing a peaceful protest scheduled for August 1 to 10.
