Namibia and Equatorial Guinea played to a 1-1 stalemate in Johannesburg on Matchday 6 of the African qualifiers for the 2026 FIFA World Cup on Monday.
Coming off a narrow victory against Malawi, the Brave Warriors aimed to maintain pressure on Group H leaders Tunisia.
Meanwhile, Equatorial Guinea entered the contest with momentum after a 2-0 triumph over São Tomé and Príncipe.
Despite both teams arriving in good form, the first half at Orlando Stadium lacked clinical finishing.
Namibia had the better opportunities early on but struggled to break down Equatorial Guinea’s disciplined defence, while their own composure in the attacking third let them down.
With the game still goalless at halftime, both sides needed to inject more urgency into their play.
The second half delivered a different narrative, with the deadlock broken just six minutes after the restart.
Deon Hotto delivered a dangerous free-kick into the box, which Peter Shalulile met with a precise volley to put Namibia ahead.
However, their lead lasted only a few minutes. Equatorial Guinea responded in the 54th minute when Esteban Orozco found Saúl Coco in space, and the defender fired home the equaliser, capitalizing on his side’s increasing control in midfield.
Both teams searched for a late winner, but neither could produce the decisive moment.
Namibia remain second in Group H with 12 points, trailing Tunisia by three, while Equatorial Guinea sit fourth on seven points.
With qualification still within reach, Namibia will look to build on this result, while Equatorial Guinea face a must-win scenario in their remaining fixtures to keep their hopes alive.
