Social media was set buzzing on Saturday evening after viral video clips showed afrobeat singer, Seun Kuti assaulting a police officer in Lagos.
In the viral video obtained by PUNCH METRO, Kuti was seen pushing the gun wielding police officer.
He was also seen slapping the Police officer who was said to have been on duty at the Third Mainland bridge.
While reacting to the incident, Seun Kuti said he slapped the police officer because he tried to kill him and his family.
He wrote” He tried to kill me and my family.I have the proof but I no dey chase clout. He has apologized and I have decided not to press charges. Make una mind una business make the poor guy no loose him job”.
Nigerians have taken to social media to call out police authorities to take necessary action against Kuti saying he has no right to take law into his hands.
A Twitter user with the handle @KNaikky called the attention of the @Princemoye1and @BenHundeyi assaulted a policeman on camera & he should be prosecuted for his lawlessness, regardless of what might have transpired between him & the policeman,he ought not to have taken D law into his hands by assaulting a policeman on uniform.
Also, @Obajemujunr_ said, “Nobody is above the law; Seun Kuti (Mr. Know All) slapping a policeman should serve a jail term for it. We might not like the Nigerian police, but give them the respect they deserve. He preaches good governance while beating a police officer.”
The force spokesperson Muyiwa Adejobi has said the Nigeria police will speak on the matter soon.
He wrote on his official Twitter handle” Seun’s Attack: “The NPF will speak to this incident very soon. it’s unbelievable, but such happens for people to learn lessons. We shall be back”.
